Painting practice

An important element of our Healing Arts practitioner training is engaging in our own art practice - both in the journal, and on canvas. This practice is a way to process what comes up for us during the training, and as we guide our guests on their Healing journey.

Here is a peek at the first Quartier of this painting practice.

Reclaiming - ripples and first glaze

Several years ago, Shiloh introduced a 13 moon painting class and called Anthropas, art based on and reflecting our human presence in the cosmos. Engaging with these videos and painting on a large canvas is part of our journey in Prisma, and each full moon, the writings and recordings for that month are released.

I am using a thrift store canvas that's almost as tall as I am! I had begun another painting on it, (Diva X) and am reclaiming it yet again.

We began by considering our own creation stories, both from childhood, and more recent versions, and the star map at the time and season of our arrival and first breath. I drew mine on black paper ⚫

Early September dawn
In the second moon, we danced with enanation - what are we part of?  Where do we for in? I especially liked the dragon dance of the blues -
Each layer is Ephemeral, largely covered by what comes after ....

2nd Moon - Emanation

In the third moon, we have been invited to connect with the oracle of our own voice, and feel into our arrival in time and space of this embodiment.

Heart and field

An important part of our Intentional painting process is covering the canvas with a thin layer of paint that unifies the colors, while at the same time assisting us in integrating our experience this far.

Into the fog - Glaze

As we glazed, we were invited to move our bodies and use earthy tones to ground our experience. I often lay my canvas flat for glazing - but this one's large, and it was a rainy day!
I used:
  • Quinacridone Nickel Azo Gold
  • Violet oxide
  • Van Dyke Brown

The previous layer peeks through ....
And finally - a stroke/ pattern signifying our arrival - Here I Am!
Calligraphy of Arrival
🌟 ⭐ 🌟
I am here!
Time out of time
Space beyond this earth star
We are part of the
Dance of the Pleiades
Moving into alignment
Within the great dance
Here we are
Dancing with All that Is
It is enough

Take it to the Journal

In our Intentional Creativity practices and classes, we often suggest,  'take it to the journal' especially when feeling stuck or seeking insights.  For decades, I've kept journals with lots of words, and sketchbooks ... in our Intentional Creativity process we combine the two, and use art and color to assist processing and integration.  Healed Enough journal Simple composition books make a great base for these creative journals, and is fun to decorate the covers, as we did in school! Another option is a sketchbook with blank pages - choose something you'll enjoy using!   Simple art materials suffice and add interest - washi tape, markers, inexpensive paint, old magazines for collage, tools for making patterns, oil pastels, mod podge and glitter are fun ways to add color and movement.  This is a great place to record your intention, ideas and insights that arise during a class or project.  At times I participate in a friend's  EFT tapp...

Prayer flags

My feed over on Instagram delivered a wonderful profile with a continuing saga of the artist's adventures ...  Hannah posted about a taking much needed camping trip, which turned into a sodden disaster - and wrote that they hung their 'cloutie flags' upon setting up camp in Cornwall.  Clooties by a sacred well I guessed she meant small cloth prayer flags or banners, and found this when I looked it up: The Scots word ‘clootie’ means ‘cloth’ and this term can also be found in use in the famous Scottish dessert, the ‘clootie dumpling’. The ‘cloots’ of the clootie well are scraps of cloth hung from trees surrounding a sacred well or spring. These sources of clean water have been places of healing for millennia. Traditionally, the well would be visited at special times of the year, such as Beltane, the May Day festival of Spring, or when someone needed a cure for an illness. The well would draw people from across the local area, a social pilgrimage, each taking their...

Plant Medicine

As a little girl, I loved the idea of using pants for their healing medicine and wisdom! Is gather soft leaves, smash them on a cinder block, and then - not sure what to do next - would roll into little pastilles, and set them in the sun to dry... Mallow in the path As an adult, I learned lots from my botanist  hubby and his mom, joined the local herb society, and took medicine making classes as I could. I cook with herbs, brew herbal tisanes and infusions, and infuse herbs in oil to use in my massage practice. About 20 years ago, I lubricated the track on my sliding glass door - and  smashed my finger closing it!! (LMTs hate any hurts to our hands!!)  The ND I work with said 'keep taking hypericum (homeopathic) as long as you notice it hurts, and apply hypericum oil or tincture!!' I did as he recommended  - the fingernail did fall off! But regrew, with a faint line) I also used comfrey poultices and clay externally. Hypericum or St John's wort helps speed the heal...
